Biography

Nicola is a Partner in Tierney Haines Architects in charge of the Landscape Design department. The firm was established in 2004 and having worked in the UK and France is now well established in Dublin, with a variety of jobs across Ireland. Work varies from architectural design, landscape design, furniture and conservation.

She works on a range of rural and urban gardens ranging in size from small courtyards to 2 acre sites. She has worked for UCD, designing a range of garden spaces including a sensory garden and educational gardens. She is involved in the design of community gardens, building a garden in a local school with an emphasis on helping the students combat climate change. She is working on a master plan for a local housing estate, helping to get them on to the pollinator plan. Coming from an architectural background (having worked in architectural offices in the UK and Hong Kong, including Fosters and Partners and Allies and Morrison), she has a particular interest in linking buildings to their outside spaces and environmental sensitivity is foremost in her schemes. She works closely with her clients to offer bespoke landscape and garden design services that provide uniquely beautiful outside spaces that fit both brief and budget. Now, more than ever, we are looking to our outside spaces as a tonic for body and mind. Nicola is passionate about design as a means to connect people to nature and to promote community and togetherness.

Nicola utilises a wide range of mediums as part of the design process including, hand drawn sketches, physical models and 3D visualisations. This promotes an immensely collaborative relationship and allows her clients to be fully involved in the design process.

As well as full landscape services, she also offers a 2 hour fixed rate consultation for clients who are looking for advice without the need for a full service.
