Biography

Patricia Tyrrell is an award winning garden designer with 2 Gold Medals and Best in Category from Bloom. She holds an honours degree in Landscape Horticulture from UCD and is also a Masters Graduate of the School of Landscape Architecture at UCD.

As a qualified Horticulturist, Patricia believes strongly that good landscape design should be underpinned with good planting design. She offers a specialist service in Planting Design to clients with existing gardens in need of renewal and to other design professionals. She also believes that our designed landscapes should encourage nature and  fit into and reflect the surrounding natural landscape.

Patricia seeks to create landscapes with atmosphere; living landscapes that are not just beautiful, but contribute positively to the environment. In achieving this goal she believe there are three key considerations: people, place and planting.

People

Patricia believes it is vital to listen carefully to the client throughout the design process. Understanding the client’s needs is of the greatest importance in creating a successful design solution that works for the client and is unique to them.

Place (The Site)

Every site is different with its own unique context and history. Wherever possible Patricia employs local materials, which are more sustainable and express more clearly local character and craftsmanship. The sights and sounds of nature enrich our everyday lives, whether in city or country and the protection and enhancement of local biodiversity should be an essential part of the design process.

The Planting

Planting combinations are inspired by natural communities and with the knowledge of years of experience of how plants grow and interact, to produce successful and easily maintained planting schemes, with attention to colour, texture and year round interest.

Patricia Tyrrnell is a long-standing Council member and office-holder within the GLDA and attained Fellowship of Association (FGLDA) in 2021.
